UK GA Change Programme 21/22

Hi all

Just released yesterday was the CAA consultation response "UK General Aviation opportunities after leaving EASA" https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/GA%20opportunities%20after%20leaving%20EASA%20(CAP2146).pdf

They are launching 3 strategic projects alongside a number of tactical projects and quick wins, one of which is

S3 An exploration of GA

medical requirements and

benefits, including a review of

the pilot medical declaration

process in order to enhance

the end user experience and

to identify opportunities in the

context of the FCL Strategic

Project (simplify and

rationalise).

In some of the inputs and consideration of overseas GA regulation potentially beneficial to UK the top bullet point on Australia/New Zealand is colour vision testing.

Whilst GA not commercial at the moment this feels like a big opportunity to make the case for changing the approach for colour deficient pilots to take a practical test and remove the No Night Flying restriction which currently is the major impediment to a Class 1 medical and a commercial career.

Are we keyed into this and the next stages of the strategic project?

Cheers

Rob

Hi Rob

Thank you very much for bringing this to attention!

We have been in communication with authorities already about the need for a practical test and we also wrote within the consultation that it was needed. However, from reading this document very briefly, there are currently no target projects under the S3 category. We will write to this CAA GA group and ask to be included in the discussions on S3 , creating a practical testing project.

If you would like to help us and the panel with our effort do send an email to ecdaa.info@gmail.com

Cheers

Jordan
